2017 Draft Profile - Malik Monk

Strengths: Malik Monk is a very explosive player. His leaping ability allows him to finish around the rim at a high percentage. He has great passing instincts that help him in open space. Possess solid ball skills including crossovers and behind the back dribbles.

His shot making ability is also very good. He is most comfortable in catch-and-shoot situations. Monk has really good potential as a slasher because he can stop on a dime and pull up over his defender.

Defensively, he has the potential to be a very good defender. He has really good range and quickness to guard multiple positions. The tools are there for him to be a really good player; it’s going to be a matter of him working hard.

Weaknesses: If Monk wants to become a good player at the NBA level he is going to need to work on his shot selection. Even though he has good explosiveness, he lives off tough shot attempts.

He needs to improve on passing the ball more as ball movement often stops once he gets possession. Part of being a good player at the next level is being unselfish and finding the open man for a better-shot attempt.

If he can continue his shot-making and passing ability, but stay away form his ball tendencies he will be a much more valuable piece for his team.
