Position: PG
Team: Iowa State
Class: Senior

2017 Draft Profile - Monte Morris

Strengths: Monte Morris is a true point guard who has an ability to run the pick-and-roll at the NBA level. He is a floor general who can create shots both for his teammates and for himself. He played four years in college at a good Iowa State program, so his basketball IQ is very high.

As a scorer, Morris has an ability to score from a variety of ways. He is athletic enough that he can finish above the rim, and he can also shoot the three ball. He shot 38.1 percent from three in his career at Iowa State. He is an extremely talented shooter off the dribble, but also can be a spot up shooter.

His biggest strength on defense is his ability to create steals. He averaged 1.6 steals per game in college. While he is not the best on ball defender, he is an exceptional team defender.

Weaknesses: A couple things on offense that Morris can continue to improve on is his midrange game, and continue to work on his long range shooting. He shot well from three in college, but the three-point line moves back in the pros so he will need to work on his range.

He also needs to improve his on-ball defense. The NBA has turned into a guard’s game, and if he wants to be a rotation player then he has to be able to defend the quick point guards in the NBA. He often gets lazy on pick-and-rolls, and that leads to easy buckets at the professional level.
