2017 Draft Profile - Sindarius Thornwell
Strengths: Sindarius Thornwell has possesses good size for the guard position. What stands out is his physique. He is strong and his 214-pound body frame will allow him to hold his own against other players. He also holds superior ball-handling skills for his size, which makes him a mismatch for defenders.Thornwell is a good finisher in the lane and a lot of that is due to his ability to absorb contact well. He vastly improved his jump shot during his college career and with more practice at the next level he can develop into a reliable shot maker.
His calling card in the NBA will most likely be on the defensive end. His speed helps him cover quite a bit of ground while on the court. He has the tools to be an elite defender; it is just a matter of him putting in the work.
Weaknesses: He can sometimes be a little careless with the basketball, which makes him turnover prone. At times he can also force the issue a bit too much on the offensive end. Because he carried the scoring load at South Carolina most of the time on the court he is used to having the ball in his hands and must find ways to be better without it.
At 23 years of age teams may be hesitant on selecting Thornwell. Being considered a elder draftee sometimes gives teams the impression that their upside is not as high as some of the younger players. He must show teams that his skill and potential are too much to pass up.
