2017 Draft Profile - Tyler Lydon
Strengths: Tyler Lydon’s sophomore campaign has solidified himself as a prototypical stretch-four in the current NBA. For a player that lacks strength, Lydon still possesses explosiveness near the basket and has great instincts for the game. His deep range is a great asset if he elects for the NBA draft, with a soft touch and quick release around three-point range. Lydon also has the power to beat you off the dribble, especially when defenses made an adjustment to close out. His great instincts for the game typically result in the correct pass.
Lydon also has defensive capabilities, with great help side defense and a knack for shot blocking. His seven-foot wingspan will certainly be helpful on the defensive end, during his adjustment period with NBA-level competition.
When posted against a favorable matchup, Lydon also isn’t afraid of using his post moves. His off-ball movement has been a pleasant surprise, as his off-ball screens have set up shooting opportunities.
Weaknesses: Lydon will definitely need to add to his frame, or else he will get tired while banging with physical big men in the NBA. Although this can be typical in the jump from the NCAA to the NBA, the sophomore should try to gain some weight going into the offseason.
Although his offensive skillset is admirable, Lydon does have a tendency to get complacent on the offensive end at times. If he were slated in the correct offensive system, a NBA coach can definitely capitalize on his offensive game.
