2020 Draft Profile - Jalen Smith

Jeremy Woo - Sept. 16th: "Although Smith is likely to be selected in the first round at this point, he’s more of a situational fit on a team in particular need of a floor-spacing big. Optimistically, he fits a useful archetype as a center who can shoot threes and block shots, but his limited mobility and balance may be problematic and hamper his ability to play in traffic."

Gary Parrish - CBS Sports - July 6th: "Not all prospects who return for their sophomore seasons actually help themselves from a draft-stock perspective, but Jalen Smith clearly did. He added strength, improved his field goal percentage by 4.6 points, his 3-point percentage by 8.0 points, and averaged more points (15.5), rebounds (10.5) and blocks (2.4) than he did the year before."

NBA Draft Room - July 6th: "Smith is a natural big man but is also a very fluid athlete and has coordination usually seen in wings. As he expands his game to the perimeter he’ll gain more and more draft value."

HashTag Basketball - July 1st: "Smith is a good athlete who can guard multiple positions. His lateral agility and shot-blocking capabilities make him a coveted defensive asset. Switching onto guards isn't a big issue either. Even when Smith gets beat by quicker opponents, his length never takes him entirely out of a play."

USA Today - June 25th: "He rebounds, runs the court, blocks shots and can score. He has good hands and footwork and while he does damage in the low post, he can step out and shoot 3-pointers."

NBA Draft Room - May 26th: "Smith took his game to a new level this year, hitting 3's and blocking shots and looking the part of an NBA pf. He's got upside but needs to be more aggressive on the court."

Jeremy Woo - SI - May 6th: "Smith turned a corner this season in terms of productivity, and his ability to protect the rim and shoot gives him a chance to survive in the NBA. The primary issue here is a lack of great athletic tools and poor lower body strength, and the fact he’s a stiff mover and a bit slow off the floor."

Jeff Goodman - Stadium - May 6th: "Smith does a little bit of everything. He can run the court, is able to step up and make shots from mid-range, and helps with rim protection."
