Onyeka Okongwu
Ht/Wt: 6' 9" / 245 lbs
Position: PF/C
Team: USC
Class: Freshman

2020 Draft Profile - Onyeka Okongwu

Jeremy Woo - Sept. 16th: "He runs the floor well, covers ground defensively, and was consistent all season for a USC team that sorely needed it. Okongwu lacks elite size and length for his position, but that should matter less as the league trends toward smaller lineups."

Gary Parrish - CBS Sports - July 6th: "Is he an undersized big? Yes, probably. But he's an undersized big who can play multiple positions. And, either way, the NBA is now littered with undersized bigs. So even though Okongwu wasn't thought of this way coming out of high school, it's now reasonable to call him the second-best big prospect in the draft."

NBA Draft Room - July 6th: "In his one season at USC Okongwu was an overpowering force, using his quick-twitch power to blow by and go through defenders and explode to the rim."

HashTag Basketball - July 1st: "He does a great job of getting his defender off balance and manipulating them to create an easy shot. He is also very calm with the ball. He isn't a great playmaker or ball-handler, but he typically makes the right passing decision and doesn't force bad shots. "

USA Today - June 25th: "Okongwu averaged 16.2 points and 8.6 rebounds for the Trojans in 2019-20, showing prowess on the glass and low block. His production and rim protection will be hard to pass up. "

NBA Draft Room - May 26th: "Onyeka is a physical specimen who was an overpowering force, even as a freshman. He's like a more offensively gifted Tristan Thompson who also blocks shots at a very high level."

Kyle Boone - CBS Sports - May 26th: "The 6-9 forward/center is an elite defender who can step out on the perimeter and slide his feet well and also disrupt shots in the paint. While he doesn't have much range yet he brings good value as a scorer inside the arc."

Jeremy Woo - SI - May 6th: "He runs the floor well and should enable teams to play smaller and faster without sacrificing a ton defensively. Okongwu’s productivity and the fact he doesn’t need his number called to impact a game are appealing. He’s not exceptionally skilled as a scorer, which coupled with his size may limit some of the upside offensively—assigning star potential there requires a level of optimism."

Jeff Goodman - Stadium - May 6th: "In a draft loaded with big men, Okongwu solidified himself as one of the best. He’s big, strong, plays with a high motor and is also effective on the defensive end as a shot blocker and rebounder."
