2020 Draft Profile - Tyrese Maxey

Jeremy Woo - Sept. 16th: "Maxey’s stock dropped a bit after a statistically unimpressive season, and he was among the higher-profile players who really could have used a strong postseason run to help his stock. But the hope here is that his value is greater than the sum of his parts, and that his toughness and confidence will help cover for some of the holes in his game."

Gary Parrish - CBS Sports - July 6th: "But, for much of the season, the 6-3 freshman was inconsistent while making just 29.2 percent of his 3-point attempts. So his one year in college was a little disappointing relative to preseason expectations."

NBA Draft Room - July 6th: "Although he doesn’t have great size he’s a stout defender who can hold his own against taller players and keep pace with point guards. He’s pesky and tenacious and plays hard on defense."

HashTag Basketball - July 1st: "He is incredibly quick and doesn't struggle to get his shot. When he's playing off-ball, his quickness and change of pace make it incredibly difficult for defenders to stay with him. When he has the ball, his lightning-quick first step can get him to the rim with ease, or he can utilize a crippling stepback to create space for a jumper."

USA Today - June 25th: "Maxey (14 points per game) was the key piece on a Wildcats team coach John Calipari felt was a national title contender. His shot needs work but he has gifts that can't be taught, namely his clutch ability."

NBA Draft Room - May 26th: "A compact, score first combo guard who can light it up from downtown. He fell off a bit after a hot start and struggled with consistency and efficiency."

Kyle Boone - CBS Sports - May 26th: "Shooting 29.2% from 3-point range in his lone college season at Kentucky dinged Maxey's stock, but he'll add instant value as an elite defender and driver even if the outside shot remains below average."

Jeremy Woo - SI - May 6th: "He’s not a point guard, and becoming more of a threat without the ball in his hands is imperative to his success as a combo. But he has the tools to be a strong defender, and enough craft as a scorer to think he eventually pulls it all together."

Jeff Goodman - Stadium - May 6th: "Maxey does a nice job getting to the basket and finishing, and he’ll need to become more consistent with his perimeter shot."
