Jalen Duren
Ht/Wt: 6'11" / 250 lbs
Position: C
Team: Memphis
Class: Freshman

2022 Draft Profile - Jalen Duren

Cody Taylor - USA Today - Apr. 9th: "Defensively, he has the size to immediately make the jump to the NBA and hold his own against bigger competition. Teams will certainly be impressed with his 7-foot-5 wingspan and that should add to his ability on defense."

Ricky O'Donnell - SB Nation - Apr. 5th: "Duren doesn’t turn 19 years old until mid Nov., and like Griffin already has a man-child frame. At 6’10, 250 pounds, with a 7’5 wingspan, he projects as a center who play multiple coverages defensively and boasts an improving offensive skill set."

Kyle Boone - CBS Sports - Mar. 16th: "….while flashing some interesting playmaking potential and continuing to do what he does best as a board-crashing big who can finish above the rim and act as a constant lob threat."

Mike Schmitz - ESPN - Mar. 21st: "Getting to know Duren personally and determining whether or not he can be more than a run-and-jump big will go a long way in deciding just how high the 18-year-old big man with Dwight Howard-like tools will ultimately go, and if he can be more than an NBA starter."

Bryan Kalbrosky - USA Today - Feb. 16th: "Even if he hasn’t quite lived up to lofty preseason expectations, Memphis big Jalen Duren is a tantalizing prospect because he has an NBA-ready physique for a big man. He has three games in which he recorded at least five blocks and on offense, it is hard to stop him when he is cutting to the basket."

Kyle Irving - Sporting News - Feb. 11th: "He has the potential to be a two-way force in the paint, catching lobs on offense, protecting the rim on defense and owning the glass on both sides."

Ricky O'Donnell - SB Nation - Jan. 19th: "While he’s a tad short for a center at 6’10 (and perhaps even 6’9), Duren otherwise has impressive physical tools for a center with a 7’5 wingspan and strong frame. He plays with impressive power at both ends of the floor despite being so young, showing the ability to get vertical and absorb contact at the rim defensively."

Cody Taylor - The Rookie Wire - USA Today - Jan. 19th: "Duren has drawn comparisons to Bam Adebayo of the Miami Heat given his size and skills. The physicality Duren plays with makes him a force in the paint while he is thought to be very advanced in his abilities at this stage of his career."

NBA Draft Room - Jan. 15th: "Duren is 18 months younger than Chet and has elite physical tools but has more of an old-school skill set."

Jeremy Woo - SI - Jan. 13th: "It’s concerning that in spite of Duren’s considerable gifts, he’s never been consistently dominant, and it’s not just his motor at this point — he’s not the type of physical presence who can simply flip a switch and take over a game. His feel is lacking behind his peers."

Sam Vecenie - The Athletic - Jan. 6th: "Still, his overall game hasn’t been awesome so far, as he’s struggled occasionally with fouls and hasn’t looked all that dangerous as a passer. Right now, he’s profiling as the typical toolsy center prospect that has the potential to be a top-half-of-the-league starter but probably won’t be an All-Star."
