Position: SG/SF
Team: Overtime Elite
Class: -

2023 Draft Profile - Ausar Thompson

Jonathan Wasserman - Bleacher Report - June 21st: "… unbeatable quickness and explosion, plus budding playmaking ability and improving shot-making."

Kyle Irving - Sporting News - June 21st: "Ausar has too much potential to pass up on as a freakishly athletic, defensive-minded wing with some off-ball scoring prowess and budding playmaking. He can play any perimeter position."

Gary Parrish - CBS Sports - June 20th: "This Thompson is Amen's twin brother and a comparable talent whom some believe is actually the superior prospect."

NBA Draft Room - May 16th: "Has ideal size and big time athleticism at the 2 guard position and has shown an improved shooting touch. Didn’t face high level competition, which makes the evaluation a little harder."

John Fanta - Fox Sports - May 12: "Will the jumper evolve so that he can stay on the floor at the wing spot? There's no question of Ausar's control and maturity playing the game. In fact, one scout told me that his basketball-IQ is extremely high for his age."

Tyler Byrum and Chase Hughes - NBC Sports - May 8th: "His defensive skills are already at an elite level, like his footwork and intensity. At 6-foot-7 with a plus-three wingspan, his length makes him a natural disruptor who can play out of position."

Bryan Kalbrosky - For the Win - May 5th: "Most encouraging, though, is that he increased his 3-point efficiency from 30.0 percent on 3.8 attempts per game in the regular season to 38.5 percent on 7.8 attempts per game during the postseason."

Krysten Peek - Yahoo! Sports - Jan. 30th: "There are teams that could favor Ausar's game over Amen come draft time. Like Amen, his athleticism and quick pace in the open court stand out immediately. Ausar is the slightly better on-ball defender and led the Overtime Elite league in blocked shots last season."

Tyler Byrum and Chase Hughes - NBC Sports - Jan. 16: "A gifted, explosive athlete with good size for an NBA wing, Thompson has a lot that you can't teach. He's also a fairly decent ball-handler in halfcourt isolation with the ability to create his own plays, at least against the quality of defenders Overtime Elite faces."

Jonathan Wasserman - Bleacher Report - Jan. 5th: "Right now, Thompson's total athleticism—quickness, bounce, flexibility, coordination—and defense remain ahead of the pack. Signs of improved shooting and the likelihood for more should ultimately give him an edge, especially now that Smith's knee problems have resurfaced and Whitmore hasn't flashed the most convincing shooting or passing skills yet."
