2025 Draft Profile - Drake Powell

The Ringer - May 27th: "Powell has the size, speed, and flexibility to be the kind of versatile switcher and helpside irritant that fits everywhere, but he’ll need to keep developing those offensive flashes to be able to ply his intriguing defensive tools in the NBA."

Kyle Boone - CBS Sports - May 23rd: "He tested through the roof athletically at the combine and made clear his largely lackluster one season at UNC didn't allow him to completely showcase his impressive variety of skills."

NBA Draft Room - May 22nd: "Powell is arguably the most athletic player in the draft class and has good size as well. He’s got elite defensive potential and is a solid transition player but his half court offense is a work in progress."

Kevin O'Connor - Yahoo! Sports - May 12th: "Powell has a chiseled frame he uses to barrel into defenders at the rim and to contain opponents when he’s on defense. He’s a switch-everything defender who plays with a high motor, and if his spot-up jumper translates, he checks all the boxes to be a 3-and-D role player at a minimum."

Jeremy Woo - ESPN - March 25th: "Powell's freshman season ended with North Carolina's first-round loss to Ole Miss, leaving questions going into the predraft process that place him on the fringe of the first round. He's a sturdy wing defender who guarded multiple positions effectively with his length and good instincts this season."

Jeremy Woo - ESPN - March 13th: "This is just one of many cases in which NIL spending power makes the option to turn pro less clear-cut for prospects who are not guaranteed to be first-round picks. A poor team context as well as limited offensive skills made this a somewhat forgettable freshman season for Powell -- and though teams still like his defensive upside in the long run, he'll have work to do in the predraft process to enhance his standing."

Kyle Boone - CBS Sports - March 12th: "The breakout for Powell may not happen this season but the flashes of promise as a future NBA role player have been enough to keep him in the first round for me. He can make open shots and has the defensive tools to be a star on that end."
