2025 Draft Profile - Tre Johnson
The Ringer - May 27th: "Johnson’s intoxicating combination of size and scoring gives him the look of a primary offensive option at the highest levels, but his tools may be better suited for a different role. Johnson’s speed, mobility, and dynamism as a shooter give him immense gravity on the floor, which should translate immediately to the NBA level."Kyle Boone - CBS Sports - May 23rd: "Johnson is widely believed to be off the board inside the top five picks. He led all college freshmen last season in points per game and total 3-pointers made."
NBA Draft Room - May 22nd: "I’ve had some up and down feelings about Tre Johnson but at the end of the day he’s an elite shot-maker with size and a level of confidence and competitive fire that makes the great ones great. I like his passing/play-making more than most and think that if he lands in the right situation he’ll surprise a lot of people with his passing and assist numbers."
Kevin O'Connor - Yahoo! Sports - May 12th: "Johnson is a clutch shot-maker who can catch fire from all over the floor, drilling step-backs and off-screen jumpers with ease. But he needs to continue developing his point guard skills while also honing his shot selection and dramatically improving his defense."
Jonathan Givony - ESPN - March 25th: "Johnson's season ended with a play-in loss to Xavier. It was a typical outing for Johnson this season. He had extreme highs, putting nonstop pressure on the opposing defense with high-level shots running off screens, pulling up off the dribble and hitting impossible step-back jumpers."
NBA Draft Room - March 22nd: "He’s a pure scorer who can flat-out shoot the ball. He’s also underrated as a passer and I think he’ll do really well at the NBA level operating with the ball in his hands, either scoring or finding the open man."
Jeremy Woo - ESPN - March 13th: "Despite a middling season for Texas (17-14), Johnson has endeared himself to scouts, as there's a willingness to forgive his tricky team context and the ups and downs of his demanding role. He has helped himself as a result, despite pronounced highs (39 points in an overtime loss at Arkansas) and ugly lows (0-for-14 from the field against Oklahoma)."
Kyle Boone - CBS Sports - March 12th: "He's a bucket-getter approaching the same territory as Ace Bailey, and while he's a prolific scorer, he has shown other flashes as an offensive weapon, adding to his already-deep bag."
Jonathan Wasserman - Bleacher Report - March 11th: "The question is how the teams picking No. 3 through 10 view Johnson's ceiling, as there is more debate about how a lack of rim pressure and free-throw attempts will affect his trajectory as a scorer. However, the tape clearly shows a more useful passer (than the numbers suggest) who can leverage his gravity into playmaking."
USA Today - March 11th: "Johnson is a natural shooter and scorer. He does well when scoring on the move and is a decent playmaker for his size. He still needs to work on his ability to make plays for others"
