Ht/Wt: 6' 5" / 190 lbs
Position: SG
Team: Washington
Class: Senior

2014 Draft Profile - CJ Wilcox

Strengths:
Wilcox is unlikely to ever be a star in the NBA, but he has a skill that should allow him to maintain a spot in the NBA for years, he can shoot the lights out.

Wilcox ranked in the top-10 of all prospects in catch-and shoot jumpers, pull-up jumpers, and jumpers coming off a screen. While not great off the dribble, he understands when defenders are closing out too hard on him, and has shown the ability to go by those guys and finish at the rim.

He has good size and an excellent wingspan for the shooting guard position and is also a very intelligent player. He plays within himself, understands what he can and can’t do, and takes care of the ball.

He improved his scoring ability in isolation and pick-and-roll situations, but is unlikely to ever be his strong suit.

Weaknesses:
Wilcox is solid in most places, but doesn’t stand out in any area other than his shooting. His ball handling leaves a lot to be desired and he can’t be relied on to get baskets in one-on-one situations consistently.

He is also an average defender at best. Despite possessing decent athletic tools, good length, and a high basketball IQ, he has not flashed the ability to be a lockdown defender at the next level. He is also only an average rebounder and you would like to see more in that area.

At 23, he is one of the oldest prospects in this draft, so many assume his potential is minimal compared to some of the brighter prospects in the draft.

Basically, Wilcox is what he is. He is someone who can stretch the floor when left open and take advantage of lax defenses. As long as he can not be a negative on defense, and continue to take care of the ball, he can be Anthony Morrow 2.0 at the next level.
