2014 Draft Profile - Dario Saric

Strengths:
Saric is a true ‘point forward’ much in the mold of Lamar Odom. He is an excellent passer with a great understanding of angles, and his height allows him to see over smaller defenders who try to guard him.

He is aggressive in attacking the boards, and he is able to turn those rebounds into transition opportunities either through quick outlet passes, or by using his ball handling skills to lead the break himself. Saric possesses a number of post moves as well, making him effective in both transition and half court offense.

He has a great basketball IQ, likely due from his time spent playing point guard growing up. He knows where to be on the floor at all times, and that knowledge helps him overcome some athletic shortcomings.

He is a high character guy who works hard and gives maximum effort consistently and his ability to make plays for others is something that few possess at his size.

Weaknesses:
Saric’s main weakness is his lack of elite athleticism and quickness. There are times when Saric struggles to create offense against better athletes, which he will be facing at the NBA level.

Defensive Saric can be blown by at times by quick players. He attempts to offset this by playing off of quicker players and his length allows him to challenge shots. But against good shooters this will not work.

It is unclear what position he would be able to guard in the NBA as he doesn’t have the speed to keep up with small forwards, but also lacks the strength to bang with true power forwards.

His shooting still leaves a lot to be desired. He has an awkward form and his percentages are average at best. He is streaky and is prone to cold stretches.

His unique blend of skills makes him a very intriguing prospect, but it is unclear whether he will be able to translate those skills to the NBA level.
