2014 Draft Profile - Joel Embiid

Embiid's potential is so good it's scary. That is not to say he is not a really good player already. Picking up the sport just over three years ago he is an international superstar in the making. A top prospect just off his length and athleticism alone. He is adding skills, and an advanced feel for the game to make him a complete, efficient player. Great shot blocker with 7' 5" wingspan and tremendous quickness up in the air. First thought to be a defensive specialist, but now showing a great touch with both hands, knows how to use his length and get position for high percentage shots. He's also not a bad free throw shooter.

He has a nice touch out to mid range but takes too long to shoot the jumper. He is developing into the rare breed of a true, two-way Center, with the athleticism of a Forward. At 7' 0", maybe 240, he has an athletic frame but needs to bulk up more to take the collisions of an NBA Center. His character and desire to be great is solidifies him as a top prospect, worthy of a top 2 pick even in a loaded draft and able to get Hakeem Olajuwon comps.
