2014 Draft Profile - Jordan Adams

Strengths:
Jordan Adams is as pure a scorer as there is in this draft class. He may not be the most explosive or athletic player, but his instincts and IQ allow him to get baskets in a number of ways, and he is very efficient in doing so.

Adams has a strong frame that allows him to bully through defenders and finish through contact. He is also adept at posting up smaller players when matched up with them. And despite lacking elite athleticism, he is excellent at timing backdoor cuts to get himself easy baskets.

He is also very good in the mid-range, using screens to set up open shots, as well as finishing closer to the basket with a variety of floaters. He is a willing passer when the opportunity presents itself.

He has a non-stop motor and it shows up especially on the glass. He is by far the best offensive rebounding guard in this draft class and is also great at getting to the free throw line, and converting when there.

Defensively, he uses his length, anticipation, and quick hands to get a lot of steals. He is great at reading the passing lanes and is difficult to overpower due to his solid frame.

Weaknesses:
While he is a good shooter, Adams is far better when catching and shooting, as opposed to off the dribble. This is partially due to his average ball handling skills. He is good in a straight line, but struggles to change speeds and direction with the ball.

He may struggle to score consistently over NBA-level bigs and may not be able to overpower guards the way he did at UCLA. As such, he will have to improve on his mid-range game even more to maintain his efficiency and effectiveness at the next level.

His shooting from deep will also need to improve, as he was inconsistent from three-point range, especially when a defender was closing out.

Defensively, he does get a lot of steals, but he can give up a lot of baskets as well. He lacks fundamentals on that end of the court, often getting lost off the ball, and being beaten back door. He will also struggle to stay in front of the quicker guards at the NBA level.
